Granite State Snowshoe Series
2010 Series Scoring System
Individual Scoring
Each race will award a maximum of 100 points to the winner. The rest of the field will be awarded a fraction of 100 points based on their finish place and the number of total finishers using the following formula;
Finish Points = 100 - [(Finish place-1) x (100/total finishers)]
Many of you will recognize this scoring method. It's widely used by other snowshoe and trail racing series throughout New England. We feel it will be the best way to award individual performance.
*NEW for 2010; your best five (5) individual performances in series races will determine the individual standings. Teams will score points in every series event.
Team Scoring
As RD's we feel very strongly that both outstanding individual performance and team turnout should be rewarded. The team points shall be awarded by using the following formula;
TOTAL PTS = [((Sum of Top 3 teammates)*.75)+(Sum of all teammates)*.25)]
Hang in there...check out this example;
Example of Team XYZ vs. Team 123
Team "XYZ"
Teammate A (50 points)
Teammate B (35 points)
Teammate C (20 points)
Teammate D (18 points)
Teammate E (14 points)
Teammate F (6 points)
Teammate G (3 points)
TOTAL POINTS = [((105*.75)+(146*.25)]
TOTAL POINTS = 115.25
Team "123"
Teammate A (48 points)
Teammate B (44 points)
Teammate C (12 points)
TOTAL POINTS = [((104*.75)+(104*.25)]
TOTAL POINTS = 104
In this example, although Team "123" had two outstanding snowshoers they would not have scored as well as Team "XYZ" due in part to "XYZ"s great turnout (7 teammates). As RD's we not only want the best snowshoers at our races, we want all snowshoers at our races! We think this system will satisfy both needs and make the team competition truly about great teams.
*NEW for 2010; every race in the series will eligible for team points.
